How to forward a message

When you are dealing with MX Guarddog's support department, we may ask you to forward a message sample to us. When researching most email delivery issues, we need to see the contents of the original message.

Don't use that forward button in your email client.

The forward button in your email client is great for sending a message to a colleague, but not good for researching the path a message took to reach your inbox.

Messages contain something called 'headers' that contain a history of where a message came from, the computers it passed through and how long all the steps took before it was delivered to your inbox.

Using the forward button will remove all the technical information from the message and creates a new message, the technical information is lost.

How to forward and keep the headers in place.

To save the original message you must forward as an attachment. The method to forward as an attachment depends on your email client, we have examples available for several email clients. Select your email client and follow the guide to forward a message without loosing the header information.
