cPanel Email Routing

If your email is hosted on a cPanel based platform you may receive one of the following types of error messages:

• 550-Please turn on SMTP Authentication in your mail client.
• 550-Currently not permitted to relay through this server.

The exact error may vary slightly if your hosting company has customized the default message. This error occurs when you have altered the MX records in your cPanel configuration without informing cPanel that it should continue to accept mail for your domain.

The good news is the fix for this problem is easy and takes effect instantly.

In your cPanel system under email routing select Local Mail Exchanger, this step is very important The default option is automatically detect, which is incorrect if you are having your email protected by us - cPanel will get the automatic setting wrong every time and reject all incoming email for your domain without notice.
