Everyone will agree a message about male enhancement pills or someone in Africa with $50,000,000 that needs your help to move the money out of the country are both spam.
There is a new type of email, which can go by many names: marketing material, promotions, newsletters, bulk mail etc. The same type of stuff that gets shoved into your physical mailbox at your home. When we stop a message we classify as bulk mail, we will indicate it as bulk mail using an orange envelope.
If you have ever given your email address out - you will be getting bulk mail.
Perhaps you purchased a computer - 5 years ago - that computer vendor is probably still sending you regular updates on their promotions or other marketing material. If you do not want the marketing material, you will think those messages are spam. We see some customers who have 50%% or more of their email being bulk mail.
The issue for MX Guarddog is not everyone agrees these messages are junk should be stopped. While the vast majority of our customers do not want the hundreds of bulk mail messages they are sent, there is a small minority that actually want the bulk mail.
MX Guarddog offers email administrators a way to adjust the aggression level we apply to bulk mail. If you find too many messages in quarantine that are classified as bulk your email administrator can reduce the aggression level on that class of mail. Reducing the aggression level does not whitelist all bulk mail, but it will make it less likely to be stopped as spam.
If you are brand new to MX Guarddog you might want to leave the bulk mail aggression setting on low.
After you have been using our service for a while you can adjust the the bulk mail aggression setting up to medium or high. When a message is placed in quarantine that you actually want, use the release and whitelist feature - then mail from that specific sender will be allowed through the next time they send their promotional bulk mail.
